Modi Government mandates Online Property Registration nationwide
The Modi government has decided to make online property registration mandatory. The new bill will include digital registration of documents such as sale contracts and power of attorney. This step has been taken with Aadhaar verification to increase transparency and prevent fraud. The government has sought suggestions from the public till June 25.
The Modi administration has made a significant decision concerning property registration. A new bill has been drafted by the government, mandating online registration of properties. Additionally, the bill includes the registration of sale contracts, power of attorney, and other documents.
This new legislation will replace the 117-year-old Property Registration Act. Consequently, property registration will be conducted online, and all related necessary documents must be digitized.
The government has made this decision to ensure that registration becomes faster, more transparent, and convenient for citizens. The bill was created by the Department of Land Resources within the Ministry of Rural Development. Citizens are invited to share their opinions on the matter until June 25.
Besides submitting documents and registering online, the government has suggested verifying Aadhaar with 'consent' to avert fraud. Individuals who prefer not to provide Aadhaar will have alternative verification options. Concurrently, the department mentioned that the draft law recommends collaborating with other record-keeping agencies to enhance information exchange.
The proposal also suggests streamlining access to property data and connecting registration systems with other record-keeping entities to minimize fraud risk. Authorities mentioned that the Bill underscores the necessity for a contemporary legal structure that aligns with the growing reliance on registered documents in both public and private deals. Numerous states have already initiated digital changes under the previous law, and now the central government aims to establish a unified digital system throughout India.
