There has been a controversy over the inclusion of 'Muslim' and casteist words in place of mother tongue in the admission form of DU. Professor Rudrashish Chakraborty termed it as communal and against the Constitution. Removing Urdu and showing Muslim as a language is trying to differentiate the minority community, which is worrying for teachers and students.
A commotion has erupted at Delhi University concerning language issues. The university's undergraduate admissions have commenced, but the application form has sparked a fresh debate. Specifically, 'Urdu' has been excluded from the mother tongue options in the registration form and substituted with 'Muslim'.
The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) has accused the university administration of spreading Islamomia i.e. hatred towards Muslims. Not only this, Bihari and caste words have been included in the registration form. It is alleged that this is not only a violation of the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution but has become a matter of deep concern for many teachers and students.
Includes racist words
In the admission form of Delhi University, students are asked their mother tongue. This time, in place of mother tongue, community and caste words have been added to the admission form. The form omits the 'Urdu' option in the mother tongue and instead shows Muslim as a language. Along with this, caste words like 'Bihari', 'Chamar', 'Mazdoor', 'Dehati', 'Mochi', 'Kurmi' etc. have also been written in the column of mother tongue.
DU professor furious
Associate professor of Kirori Mal College, Rudrashish Chakraborty, has reacted sharply to this. "It's madness, so there's a well-thought-out plan," he said. The university's move is clearly communal. Removal of Urdu is not merely removal of a language, it is an attempt to erase the shared culture and literature created by Urdu. "
He also said that DU officials probably believed that Urdu was the language of Muslims only, so they added 'Muslim' as a language instead of 'Urdu'. This is not only ridiculous, but also an attempt to prove the country's largest minority population as 'other' or 'different'.
Abha Dev Habib, a professor and teacher leader at DU, said, "More than 3 lakh students are going to fill this form. This collapse of DU is being planned and done. It is against the Constitution. Urdu is one of the recognized languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India. In such a situation, removing it as a mother tongue by a central university can be considered against the Constitution. "
