Delhi University law students protest over Admit Card denial
Students in Delhi University's Law Faculty protested strongly against not getting the admit card due to low attendance, which hampered the examination. The administration started the examination by breaking the lock, but students without admit cards were not allowed to sit in the examination. Later, he was given the relief of provisional entry.
Delhi University: On Tuesday, May 27, the mood at Delhi University's Law Faculty became strained as over 150 students were denied admit cards for the forthcoming exams because of insufficient attendance. The students vehemently opposed the decision, disrupting an examination in the process. On Monday night (May 26) and Tuesday morning, the protesting students attempted to access the examination department and locked the examination center's gate.
The students stated, "If we are barred from taking the exam, nobody else will be able to." Nonetheless, the administration later decided to unlock the venue and proceed with the examination, though those students lacking an admit card were prohibited from participating.
After the protest, the faculty administration released a notice indicating that students previously barred from exams due to insufficient attendance are now permitted to take the exams temporarily, following the inquiry committee's recommendation. This decision aligns with the university's competent authority's directives.
ABVP accuses administration
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) condemned the decision, asserting that approximately 300 students were 'unjustly' refused admit cards merely three days prior to the exam. The ABVP alleged that the law faculty unfairly granted an admit card to Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) president and NSUI leader Raunak Khatri, despite his attendance not meeting the stipulated requirements.
Protests continue as demand for Dean's resignation
The ABVP has called for the dean's resignation and an explanation, alleging that the faculty dean has breached academic discipline and shown favoritism. Organization activists have been holding a sit-in protest on campus since Monday night. ABVP Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma stated, 'Rather than shaping the university's future, it is now attempting to stifle students' aspirations.'
He questioned why the DUSU president could be exempted while other students faced discrimination. The organization also stated that it would persist in its protest until justice is served for all students. Sharma declared, "The ABVP will combat injustice until its last breath."
