Delhi Govt Launches 'Business Blasters Seniors' for Universities and ITIs

Universities and ITIs in Delhi to Receive Seed Funding for Startups
Published on

The Delhi government on Tuesday launched the 'Business Blasters Senior' programme in all state-funded universities and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Delhi Chief Minister Atishi announced the launch of the programme for all Delhi government-funded universities and ITIs at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology.

As per the release, a panel discussion of successful entrepreneurs who are alumni of Delhi government schools was held during the launch event. He shared his journey of starting a business with an initial seed fund of Rs 2,000 and how he turned his business ideas into successful ventures.

As part of this initiative, students from Delhi government universities and ITIs will receive seed money funding of up to Rs 50,000 per team for their business ideas. Moreover, they will be provided with mentorship to assist in the establishment and growth of their startups, according to the release.

CM Atishi congratulated everyone on the launch of the Business Blasters Senior Programme, stating, 'Introducing Business Blasters in our higher educational institutions will produce future job creators who will address unemployment and propel India to become the leading country globally.'

CM Atishi said, "Indians possess remarkable talent and head many leading global corporations, but unemployment rates in our country are still high. Approximately 42% of graduates are jobless. In school, our economics textbooks mentioned three types of countries: developed, developing, and underdeveloped. India was categorized as a developing nation, anticipated to transition into a developed country by 2020. However, even after 2020, our economics textbooks continue to refer to India as a developing nation".

Although India has many talented individuals, the country has not advanced as expected. Young talents encounter fear and societal pressure from parents to obtain a 'good job' or face potential failure in life. The primary aim of education is perceived as securing employment.

CM Atishi said, "This apprehension has led to a mindset focused on avoiding risk. While young individuals from other nations are starting major startups, our skilled youth are preoccupied with job hunting."

Addressing the students, she said, "Today, three young entrepreneurs from Delhi government schools confidently shared their startup journeys on stage. If these 19-year-olds are capable of guiding university students to launch startups, I am certain they will meet the job creation needs. With the Business Blasters Senior Program, I am confident you too will become job creators for the country. Business Blasters has eliminated childhood fears in our students."

According to a McKinsey report, India will need 90 million jobs by 2030.

The CM also spoke on boosting the confidence of the students

"The assurance shown by our students convinces me of their success, as they not only aspire but also possess the determination to achieve their dreams. Our vision for schools through Business Blasters has now extended to our universities. With the introduction of the Business Blasters Senior Program, teams will receive an initial funding of Rs 50,000 to transform their business ideas into startups. I am confident that within the next decade, the students present here today will emerge as notable entrepreneurs, founders of significant startups, and play a role in making India the leading country globally", CM Atishi said.
