BCCI Suspends Cricket Ties with Pakistan Following Pahalgam Attack
Tensions between India and Pakistan have increased after the Pahalgam terror attack. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned the bilateral series against Pakistan. BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said that India will not play bilateral series against Pakistan in the future.
Since the Pahalgam terror attack, there have been many reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to boycott Pakistan in the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments as much as possible, although these speculations and reports seem to be incorrect. On April 22 (Tuesday), 26 Indian tourists were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which has increased tensions between India and Pakistan even more. As a result, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, suspended visas for Pakistani nationals and asked them to leave the country.
The Indian team has not played a bilateral series with Pakistan since 2012-13 due to poor relations between the two countries. Both teams only face each other in ICC and Asian Cricket Council tournaments. The two teams last came face-to-face in the Champions Trophy 2025.
BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has already announced that India will continue to boycott the bilateral series against Pakistan in the future as well. At the same time, he also condemned the Pahalgam terror attack. However, he did not say anything about the BCCI asking the ICC to put India and Pakistan in different groups in the future.
Speaking to the media, Rajeev Shukla said, "We are with the victims and condemn it. Whatever our government says, we will do. We don't play bilateral series with Pakistan because of the government's stance. And we will not play bilateral series with Pakistan even further. But when it comes to ICC events, we play because of ICC participation. The ICC also knows that whatever is happening, they will deal with all this. "
There is no ICC tournament in the near future other than the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup. India is hosting the Women's World Cup. But as per the hybrid model agreed by the BCCI, the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board, the Pakistan team will play all their matches at neutral venues, which is still to be decided.
