Shreyas Iyer Fined Rs 12 Lakh Despite Punjab's Win Over Chennai

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. Punjab won the match by four wickets, but Shreyas was punished as his team could not complete the quota of overs in the stipulated time. Punjab were also forced to bring an extra fielder inside the circle before the start of the 19th over, but despite all this, Yuzvendra Chahal took a great hat-trick.
The BCCI said in a release, "Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during Match 49 of IPL 2025 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday." Since this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh. "
Punjab captain Shreyas scored a brilliant half-century in the match. Shreyas scored 72 runs in 41 balls which included 5 fours and 4 fours. Opener Prabhsimran Singh scored 54 runs in 36 balls. Thanks to the best innings of these two, the team managed to achieve the target of 191 runs in 19.4 overs.
Earlier, thanks to Sam Curran's amazing innings of 88 runs, Chennai Super Kings were able to reach 190 runs. However, thanks to Yuzvendra Chahal's hat-trick in the last over, Punjab managed to stop a lot of runs. Due to the innings of Karan and Dewald Brevis, Chennai got good support.
