Sam Curran scored his first half-century of this season. In the powerplay, his team lost three wickets for 48 runs, after which Sam came to bat and brought his team back. Sam, along with Dewald Brevis, made a strong partnership of 78 runs for the fourth wicket to bring the team back and put pressure on Punjab's bowling.
Sam hit two sixes on the first two balls of the 16th over, although on the third ball, Shreyas Iyer saved the third six in the over by diving brilliantly. But Karan found the gap on the next two balls and scored 26 runs in that over. Karan's aggressive batting forced Arshdeep to resort to a wide full toss, which resulted in him bowling eight balls as two deliveries were wide.
In the 18th over, Karan finally lost his wicket. Marco Jansen's bouncer tried to bend up and down and the edge of his bat hit the ball. However, after the dismissal, when Curran was going back to the CSK dugout, he was involved in a verbal altercation with the management and fans of Punjab Kings. Karan has been the former captain of Punjab Kings.
After this, Yuzvendra Chahal, who had not been able to take any wicket in this match so far, took a six from MS Dhoni on the first ball of the 19th over, but caught him out on the second ball. On the fourth ball, he took the wicket of Deepak Hooda, after which Anshul Kamboj was out on the next ball. Noor Ahmed tried to score a run, but missed his shot and was caught, thus completing Chahal's hat-trick which was his second hat-trick in the IPL.
