8th Pay Commission to boost salaries for 50 Lakh employees
The central government has approved the 8th Pay Commission, which will come into effect from January 1, 2026. The move is expected to benefit 50 lakh government employees and 65 lakh pensioners. With salary hikes and promotions, Level 1 employees can get a salary ranging from Rs 18,000 to Rs 51,000.

It is projected that the salary for Level 1 employees could rise from Rs 18,000 to Rs 51,000. The 8th Pay Commission is likely to advantage millions of government employees.
Every ten years, the Central Government establishes a Pay Commission that benefits both government employees and retirees. Reports indicate that the 8th Pay Commission was approved in January 2025 and is expected to be implemented on January 1, 2026. Around 5 million government workers and 6.5 million pensioners are likely to benefit from this commission.
The government has been advised to lower the level from 1 to 6 and integrate it into A, B, C. This change aims to boost salaries. It is anticipated that employees at Levels 1, 3, and 5 will gain more advantages from the 8th Pay Commission, as their salaries may be consolidated at a higher tier.
