The air quality in Delhi has again reached an alarming condition. The sudden spike in dust pollution on Thursday night led to the AQI registering itself in the poor category. Due to changes in weather, the amount of PM 10 and PM 2.5 has increased to 20 times more than normal, which can have serious effects on health. Health experts say that they should wear masks while leaving the house and avoid going to dusty environments.

Concerns frequently arise regarding the air quality in Delhi, the capital. On Thursday night, there was a sudden and alarming rise in dust pollution, resulting in a dust cover over the entire NCR, including Delhi. This has affected both air quality and visibility. In terms of the AQI, it has fallen into the poor category, currently recorded above 200. However, the question remains as to why Delhi's air consistently becomes hazardous. Let's explore the reasons behind this.

Delhi's air becomes poisonous again

What is the reason?

Numerous pollution monitoring stations in Delhi have measured levels of fine particulate matter, such as PM10 and PM2.5, which pose significant health risks. Some centers are not reporting the PM10 levels, leading to doubts about their effectiveness. This issue is attributed to unexpected adverse weather conditions.

The Indian Meteorological Department reported that a sudden weather shift has made Delhi's air toxic. At approximately 11 pm, a strong wind blew towards IGI Airport, reducing visibility from 4500 to 1200 meters. Nonetheless, the IMD noted that after midnight, the wind speed diminished, causing visibility to improve to between 1200 and 1500 meters.

Dust pollution leading to decreased visibility not only heightens the danger for road traffic but also poses a threat to individuals with respiratory conditions.

Health professionals recommend that these individuals wear masks when stepping outside and steer clear of dusty areas. It is advisable for people to minimize leaving their homes in such circumstances.
