Washington Firing: A shooting incident occurred near the White House in Washington, USA. According to local media reports, two National Guardsmen were shot in the shooting that took place in downtown Washington. Their condition is said to be very critical. The shooter has been arrested. According to information shared by CBS News, the shooter who was arrested has been identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal. He is an Afghan citizen and came to America in 2021. President Donald Trump has strongly condemned this and termed it as terrorist act. Trump said that the shooter is seriously injured and will pay a heavy price.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday (local time), less than 2 kilometres away from White House. However, US President Donald Trump was not present at the National Capitol at the time. Trump is in Florida for Thanksgiving.

Following the incident, President Trump posted on Truth Social, “The person who shot the two National Guardsmen is seriously injured. The shooter is also seriously injured, but he will pay a heavy price. God bless our great National Guard and all our military and law enforcement. These are truly great people. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the President stand with you.”

Washington Firing: ‘This attack is stated as ‘targeted shooting’

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser described the attack as a “targeted shooting.” Meanwhile, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the administration has ordered the deployment of 500 more troops to Washington.

Speaking to the media, FBI Director Kash Patel said the case will be prosecuted at the federal level because it is an attack on federal law enforcement officers.

Several states have sent Guard personnel to Washington in recent months to ensure President Trump’s public safety. This mission has since expanded to several other major US cities.
