US Shutdown Crisis: US government shutdown has created chaos in its 40th day, air services have collapsed. Due to which more than 2,000 flights were cancelled and more than 8,000 flights were delayed across the country. Let us tell you that the policy of reducing flights was implemented by the US Aviation Department. After this, the number of flights cancelled has increased rapidly. While 202 flights were cancelled on Thursday, this number increased to 1,025 on Friday and 1,566 flights had to be cancelled on Saturday.

Many air traffic controllers have gone on leave since the shutdown began, adding additional workload to the remaining staff. The Department of Transportation and the Aviation Authority have decided to reduce the number of flights at the country’s 40 major airports by 10 percent to ease staff pressure and maintain airspace safety.

Thanksgiving in America: Situation could worsen

Transportation Minister Sean Duffy stated that the situation could worsen further. He warned that air travel could drop significantly before Thanksgiving (a major American holiday). The director of the National Economic Council also stated that if people are unable to travel during Thanksgiving, the country’s economy could be negatively impacted in the fourth quarter of the year.

The US government currently needs a temporary measure for spending, but this proposal is stalled in the Senate due to a special procedure called the filibuster. This procedure requires 60 votes, not a simple majority. Currently, the Republican Party has 53 votes, so they are unable to overcome the filibuster and the temporary funding proposal is unable to pass.
