The plane has been identified as UPS Flight 2976, which was headed to Honolulu, but crashed shortly after takeoff at 5:15 pm. The FAA confirmed that the plane was a McDonnell Douglas MD-11.

After the plane crash, flames began to rise and spread to surrounding areas. The plane was carrying approximately 2.5 lakh gallons of fuel, which is why the fire spread so rapidly after the crash. US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy expressed grief over the tragedy and shared horrific images from Kentucky and said that FAA and NTSB teams have been deployed for investigation.

Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, the largest hub for UPS, processes approximately 2 million parcels annually. The aircraft, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11, caught fire shortly after takeoff. This aircraft is used exclusively for cargo and was manufactured in 1991. Four people have reportedly died and 11 have been injured in the accident.
