Trump Machado Nobel Meet: Tensions between the United States and Venezuela have reached a boiling point. Against this backdrop, U.S. President Donald Trump held a high-profile meeting at the White House with Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, calling the encounter a “great honor.” Trump said that during their discussion, Machado presented him with her Nobel Peace Prize.
The meeting marked their first face-to-face interaction since Trump ordered a U.S. military campaign aimed at removing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro from power, adding further political significance to the encounter.

Machado Presented Her Nobel Prize
Machado explained that she presented President Trump with the Nobel Peace Prize medal as a symbolic gesture reflecting the shared democratic heritage of Venezuela and the United States. She recalled that nearly 200 years ago, French General Marquis de Lafayette presented Venezuelan independence leader Simón Bolívar with a medal bearing the image of George Washington, a keepsake Bolívar cherished throughout his life.
“Two centuries later,” Machado said, “the people of Bolívar are returning a medal to Washington’s successor—this time in the form of the Nobel Peace Prize medal—in recognition of his unparalleled commitment to our independence.”
