Trump issued a warning, stating that Washington is closely monitoring any possible attempts to lay mines in the narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to global energy markets. If Iran has laid any mines in the Strait of Hormuz, and we have no reports of such, we want them removed immediately. The US President warned Tehran that failure to remove any such mines will result in an unprecedented military response.

If Iran lays landmines for any reason and does not remove them immediately, Iran will face military consequences never before seen. Trump also stated that the United States is prepared to use technology and missile capabilities to prevent any attempt to mine the strategic route. The same technology and missile capabilities deployed against drug traffickers are being used to permanently destroy any boat or ship attempting to mine the Strait of Hormuz.

Shortly after receiving the warning, Trump stated that the US military had already destroyed several ships suspected of being involved in mine-laying activities. The operations were confirmed by US Central Command (CENTCOM), which said US military forces were continuing the strikes as part of a broader campaign against Iranian capabilities at sea. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the operations were conducted under direct orders from the president and were aimed at preventing threats to global shipping routes.
