Trump Boycotts G-20 Summit: US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that no US government officials will attend this year’s G-20 summit in South Africa. According to Trump, the primary reason behind this decision is South Africa’s alleged treatment of white farmers.
Trump Boycotts G-20 Summit: What did Trump say?

In his social media post, he wrote that it is simply shameful that the G-20 summit is being held in a country like South Africa. He cited the violence against African people, the loss of life and property, and the confiscation of their land and farms. Trump had previously decided that he himself would not attend the summit. In case, Vice President J.D. Vance was to be sent in his place, but now it is certain that Vance will also not attend the summit.
G-20 Summit News: Accusations and Counter-Accusations Against South Africa
The US administration alleges that the South African government has failed to prevent the oppression of white farmers. According to the US, these farmers face violence and are forced to seek asylum in the US annually to flee the country. This includes some white South African citizens who have faced discrimination and violence in their home country.
South Africa Response
On the other hand, the South African government has dismissed these allegations as absurd and surprising. They stated that the standard of living of white people has generally been better than that of black people, making the claims of harassment seem absurd. President Cyril Ramaphosa has personally spoken with Trump and stated that there is no truth to these allegations.
“South Africa should be expelled from G-20 membership”
Earlier this week, during a speech in Miami, Trump even suggested that South Africa should be expelled from the G-20. Earlier this year, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also boycotted the G-20 Foreign Minister’s meeting because the agenda focused on diversity, inclusivity, and climate change, which the US considered problematic. Thus, the US has clearly indicated that it does not accept the allegations of alleged racism by white farmers in South Africa and will not participate in the G-20 summit.
