Trump and Xi Jinping Meet: Tensions between China and the United States had escalated due to the ongoing tariff dispute, straining relations between the two nations. However, Chinese President Xi Jinping has now arrived in South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Amid the turmoil created by U.S. tariffs, President Donald Trump held a 100-minute meeting with Xi Jinping in Busan. During their discussion, both leaders addressed several key issues, and Trump announced a 10 percent reduction in tariffs on Chinese goods, adding that a trade agreement had been reached, though it has yet to be formally signed.

During his meeting with Xi Jinping, US President Donald Trump said that their meeting was going to be very successful. He called the Chinese president a tough negotiator as well as a great leader of a great country. “We know each other very well. We have always had a very good relationship,” Trump told Xi Jinping, “We will continue to have a great relationship for a long time, and it is an honor to have you with us.”
Following the meeting, there appeared to be signs of easing tensions between the two nations, with tariff reductions and progress toward a trade agreement suggesting improving relations. President Xi Jinping remarked that it was a pleasure to meet President Trump, adding that occasional disagreements between the world’s two largest economies are natural. He emphasized that China’s growth complements Trump’s “Make America Great Again” vision and expressed his willingness to collaborate in strengthening the foundation of U.S.–China relations.
America China Tariff War: 10% tariff cut
This meeting marks the first encounter between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping since 2019. Not long ago, Trump had warned of imposing an additional 100 percent tariff on Chinese goods, which would have raised the total tariff rate to 157 percent starting November 1. However, after the recent talks, the tariff rate was lowered by 10 percent, reducing it from 57 percent to 47 percent.
Trump and XI Jinping Meet: Trump’s visit to China
The meeting is anticipated to help stabilize U.S.–China relations. During the talks, President Trump announced his plans to visit China in April 2026. Both leaders also discussed key global issues, including the Russia–Ukraine conflict, nuclear weapons, and the trade of critical minerals such as rare earth elements. Trump noted that the tariff on fentanyl had been lowered to 10 percent and confirmed that the dispute over rare earth minerals with China had been settled—an agreement that will have global implications.
