According to Japan-based NHK World, Japan’s government is coordinating with the US, Australia, and India to organize a meeting of the Quad foreign ministers following the inauguration ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump next week.
Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi announced during NHK’s debate program on Sunday that he would be present at the Trump administration’s swearing-in ceremony on January 20.
As reported by NHK World, Japanese officials are organizing a meeting of the Quad foreign ministers during Iwaya’s visit to the US. Japan aimed to emphasize the significance of preserving and enhancing collaboration among the four nations to achieve a free and open Indo-Pacific with the new US administration.
The Japanese government intends to organize a meeting between Iwaya and his American counterpart. Interestingly, Trump has appointed Marco Rubio as the US Secretary of State. Senior diplomats aim to foster a relationship of trust between Japan and the United States to further reinforce the alliance.
A meeting between the leaders of the two nations is anticipated to be organized shortly. As per the NHK World report, the Japanese government intends to reach a final decision on this issue by examining the US Senate’s procedures for cabinet lineup approval.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will attend the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States, representing the Indian government. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced in a press release that he has been invited by the Trump-Vance Inauguration Committee to be present at the ceremony.
Besides attending the swearing-in ceremony, Jaishankar will meet with members of the new administration and other dignitaries visiting the US for the event.
