PM Modi Israel Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going on a two-day visit to Israel on February 25-26. This visit is considered significant from a defence and strategic perspective. It is believed that some strategic and defence-related agreements may be reached during this visit.

According to reports, Israel is ready to provide India with new defence technology. This includes the joint development of laser-based defence systems, long-range missiles, and drones. Israel has already established itself as a good partner for India in defence technology. Now, this visit has raised new hopes.

It is being reported that Israel may share technology it hasn’t previously provided. India and Israel may work together on an anti-ballistic missile defence system. This is a key part of India’s Mission Sudarshan, which aims to protect the country from enemy long-range missiles. Israel possesses robust defence systems such as the Arrow, David’s Sling, and Iron Dome.

The foundation for this expanded defence cooperation was laid during Defence Secretary R.K. Singh’s visit to Israel last November, during which a Memorandum of Understanding on Expanded Defence Cooperation was signed.

India is exploring the possibility of developing a ballistic missile defence system with Israel, which is the cornerstone of Mission Sudarshan. Mission Sudarshan is a crucial component of protecting Indian hinterland from enemy long-range missiles.

Mission Sudarshan was announced by Prime Minister Modi and is the centre-piece of India’s ballistic missile defence system. Israel is a leader in ballistic missile systems with its long-range Arrow, medium-range David’s Sling, and short-range Iron Dome systems.

This visit assumes great significance given that Israel’s Iron Dome system intercepted 98 percent of Iranian missiles during last year’s Israel-Iran war. India also plans to purchase long-range missiles and ammunition that can be launched from air, land, and sea, penetrating enemy air defence systems.

During Operation Sindoor, India used Rampage missiles, Pam 400, Harpy, and Harop suicide munitions against Pakistani targets, and nearly completely destroyed the enemy’s Chinese-made air defence system in attacks as far as Islamabad.
