Pak Navy rescues Indian Ship: The Pakistani Navy executed a successful rescue operation in the Arabian Sea for an Indian vessel named MV Gautam. The Indian vessel was stranded in the Arabian Sea following a severe technical failure. The operation which took place earlier this week, was initiated after the Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai contacted authorities in Islamabad to request urgent assistance for the drifting ship.
Pak Navy rescues Indian Ship: Stranded at Sea
The MV Gautam was on route from Oman to India when its engines failed which left the vessel and its crew stuck in open waters. According to the report, the ship was carrying seven crew members, six Indian nationals and one Indonesian. After receiving the distress call, the Pakistan Navy in coordination with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), deployed the PMSS Kashmir to the scene to start rescue operation.
Humanitarian Assistance
Navy officials confirmed that the rescue team provided immediate humanitarian support to the crew, including:
-
Emergency Rations: Fresh food and water supplies.
-
Medical Aid: On-board medical check-ups and supplies for the sailors.
-
Technical Support: Specialized teams were sent to access the techincal issues.
A Pattern of Maritime Support
This rescue follows a similar crucial operation conducted by the Pakistan Navy last month. In April 2026, the PNS Hunain rescued 18 crew members from the merchant vessel MV Gold Autumn. That vessel, carrying crews from different countries including, China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The vessel had issued an emergency alert while operating approaxly 200 nautical miles off the coast of Pakistan. In that situation, the Pakistan Navy provided not only medical care but also critical firefighting support and damage assessment.
Cross-Border Coordination
The successful assistance of MV Gautam highlights the functioning of international maritime protocols between India and Pakistan, where humanitarian concerns often overturn regional tensions. At the time of reporting, efforts were still underway to fully stabilize the MV Gautam or arrange for its towage to its destination.
