Nigeria Mosque Blast: Authorities have reported that at least five people died in a bomb explosion inside a mosque in Maidguguri, just some hours before Christmas, in northeastern Borno State of Nigeria.

According to local media sources, more than 35 people were injured in the blast at Gamboru Market, during evening prayers which is located in the state capital. And TV Channels, showcase that incident occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, when worshippers were in the Maghrib prayer.  The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, ASP Nahum Daso, says that preliminary investigations have confirmed five deaths till now, with 35 people injured.

Videos are going viral on social media, which have not been verified independently. Which shows people standing in the market area with dust and debris in the air due to explosion.

No group or organisation has been claimed responsible for the attack, but militants have previously targeted the mosques and crowded areas in region using suicide bombs with improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Maiduguri is at the centre of an ongoing insurgency by the Islamist groups Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Boko Haram began its campaign in 2009, with a aim to establish an Islamic caliphate in Borno State. Despite the security efforts, groups continues to carry out occasional attacks on the civilians in Northeast Nigeria.
