The tension began in Birgunj, Nepal, with a TikTok video that allegedly hurt religious sentiments. This dispute first emerged in the Kamala Municipality area of ​​Dhanusha district and then gradually spread to Parsa district and Birgunj. After the video went viral on social media, resentment between the two communities increased.

The situation in Nepal worsened significantly when protests erupted. Reports emerged of slogans being chanted, tires being burned, clashes, and vandalism at a mosque. To control the situation, the administration initially imposed a prohibitory order, but both sides defied the order and took to the streets. This further escalated tensions in the area.

Due to the uncontrollable tension, the District Administration Office of Parsa district imposed a curfew in Birgunj. Initially, the curfew was from 6 PM on Monday to 8 AM on Tuesday, but due to the continued tense situation, it was extended until 1 PM on Tuesday.

During the curfew, security forces have been given the authority to take strict action. Citizens have been appealed to leave their homes only for essential purposes. The administration has also stated that strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules. However, some essential services, such as ambulances, fire engines, vehicles of health workers, media personnel, human rights organisations, and diplomatic missions, are exempt from the curfew. They can move around under the supervision of security forces. Air passengers with valid air tickets are also being allowed to travel.

It is reported that the entire incident began in the Janakpur area of ​​Dhanusha district. Two youths, Haider Ansari and Amanat Ansari, allegedly posted a video on TikTok that hurt religious sentiments. After the video surfaced, outrage spread among the local people, and the two youths were handed over to the police. Following this, an incident of vandalism at a mosque in Ward No. 6 of Kamala Municipality was reported, further escalating tensions. Protests intensified in Birgunj and surrounding areas in response to this incident.
