The Israeli army has announced it is on high alert for a potential resumption of conflict with Iran, following a significant escalation of tensions in the vital Strait of Hormuz. The military is closely monitoring the evolving situation but has confirmed no changes to existing public safety instructions.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a series of security consultations throughout the day to address the developments in the Gulf region. Regional tensions have been heightened since late February, marked by coordinated strikes between the US, Israel, and Iran, leading to retaliatory actions and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite a ceasefire mediated by Pakistan and later extended by US President Donald Trump, a lasting agreement has not been reached. Since April 13, the United States has implemented a naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

Economic Repercussions in the US

The ongoing geopolitical conflict is also casting a shadow over the US economy, with a notable decline in restaurant sales. Major fast-food chains, including Wingstop and Domino’s, have reported lower-than-expected sales figures. Chipotle has projected flat growth, attributing some of the slowdown to the significant increase in gas prices across the nation.

Rising Gas Prices Affect Consumer Spending

The average price of gasoline in the US has surged to $4.46 per gallon. Consumers in California are facing particularly high prices, with the average reaching $6.11 per gallon. This substantial rise in fuel costs is directly impacting consumer spending habits, leading to reduced expenditure on dining out as households prioritize essential expenses.
