Iran New Supreme Leader: Mojtaba khamenei, son of Iran’s late Supreme leader, who’s been announced as the next ruler of the country, as per officials said on Monday. While Tehran intensifies strikes across Middle East mostly targeting the major oil and water infrastructure in the neighbouring desert nations.

Amid more than a week of attacks have passed from the US and Israel conflict, Iran’s Assembly of Experts have selected the reclusive 56-year-old religious leader, who has strong ties to paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. Since the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on 28 feb at the start of conflict, whereas the guards launched missiles and drones at the sites of Israel and Gulf Arab countries.

Ongoing war situations has disrupted the global markets, by surging the oil prices above $100 per barrel and tightening the natural gas supplies after the Qatar halted their production.

Pezeshkian said in a statement that the crucial election is a testament to the Islamic country’s desire to strengthen national unity, a unity that, like a strong deterrent, has enabled Iran to counter the machinations of its enemies. Mojtaba is an influential figure in Iran’s security forces. He is said to have run a large business network under the leadership of his father, Ayatollah Khamenei.

Assembly is a body of 88 clerics tasked with choosing Ali Khamenei’s successor. A statement issued by the Assembly said that the Assembly of Experts, in a crucial vote, appointed Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the third leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This position gives Mojtaba the final say on all matters within the Islamic Republic. Mojtaba, 56, has long been considered a powerful figure in the country’s political and religious establishment. However, he has never held elected office or publicly campaigned for leadership.

Worked with those close to the Supreme Leader

Mojtaba has worked with those close to the former Supreme Leader for decades, yet he has remained largely out of the public eye. Throughout his father’s leadership, Mojtaba Khamenei was believed to have wielded considerable influence behind the scenes, particularly within the Supreme Leader’s office and conservative political networks. Several names have emerged as candidates for Iran’s next Supreme Leader. Mojtaba’s name was discussed since the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but later, several other names also emerged.
