According to the framework, the success of the agreement will also pave the way for the removal of tariffs on several important Indian product categories. These include generic drugs, gems and diamonds, and aircraft parts. Exemption from duties imposed under US national security tariffs will grant India preferential tariff treatment on automotive parts. Prime Minister Modi stated that this step will further strengthen India’s export competitiveness and the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The joint statement also clarified that the two countries would discuss non-tariff barriers affecting bilateral trade. India pledged to address pending barriers to trade in US medical devices.
