India-US Relations: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar spoke by phone and discussed several important issues. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and S. Sergio Gor stated on the social media platform that the two had a positive conversation and also discussed a possible meeting next month.

Meanwhile, S. Jaishankar wrote on Instagram that he concluded a good conversation with Marco Rubio. Discussions focused on trade, critical minerals, nuclear cooperation, defense, and energy. It was agreed to remain in touch on these and other issues. Relations between the two countries deteriorated over tariffs, oil trade with Russia, and the US’s rejection of Operation Sindoor’s claim. However, trade talks are ongoing.

Meanwhile, influential US lawmakers have hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an important leader shaping India’s global role. Speaking at an event at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Representative Rich McCormick said Prime Minister Modi’s vision reflects a strong national focus consistent with India’s development goals. “Prime Minister Modi is deeply nationalistic in the best sense of the word,” McCormick said.
He further said that he is taking care of his country just like we take care of ours. He wants to bring productivity, expansion, and technology to his country. McCormick said that the US lawmakers understand Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on domestic capacity building, including in the defense and manufacturing sectors.
