India-Africa Relations Strengthened as Jaishankar Engages with African Media

On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with journalists from 15 countries in eastern and southern Africa in Delhi. Jaishankar discussed with him the ongoing changes in India, India’s dedication to the Global South, and the strengthening of India-Africa relations.

In a message on X, he expressed, “It was a wonderful experience meeting journalists from 15 East and South African nations in Delhi today. We talked about the current transformations in India, its commitment to the Global South, and the strengthening of India-Africa relations. Appreciated his interest in India’s foreign policy choices, trade ties with Africa, and cooperation on digital public infrastructure”.

In an effort to strengthen ties with Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Nigeria last month, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to the country in 17 years. During his trip, PM Modi had a productive meeting with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinnubu, concentrating on enhancing collaboration in sectors like defense, technology, health, and education.

The two leaders also concurred on collaborating to accomplish the development goals of the global south. Furthermore, India declared it would dispatch 20 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to aid Nigeria’s flood relief initiatives.

Sharing a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Thank you Nigeria for a productive visit, which will add strength and vigour to India-Nigeria friendship. During the visit, PM Modi and Nigerian President Tinubu discussed “global and regional issues” and agreed to work together to meet the development aspirations of the global south”.

The Ministry of External Affairs mentioned that the aim is to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the world’s most populous democracy and Africa’s most populous democracy.

Today in Abuja, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria, with an aim to improve cooperation in areas including trade, investment, education, energy, health, defense and security, culture, and interpersonal relations.

They also talked about international and regional matters. President Tinubu recognized India’s initiatives to address the issues of developing nations via the Voice of the Global South Summits. Both leaders concurred on collaborating to fulfill the development goals of the Global South.
