Ditwah Cyclone Sri Lanka: After wreaking havoc in Sri Lanka, Cyclone Ditwaha is now moving towards the Indian coast. According to Meteorological Department, storm moved north at 3 am today and could hit the coasts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry by evening.
Ditwah Cyclone Sri Lanka: Claims 334 lives and leaves 370 reported missing

Minimum 334 people are reported to be dead, while 370 remain missing in Sri Lanka due to the Cyclone Ditwah, as per Daily Mirror, citing the Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre (DMC). According to the media reports, in wake of destruction by Ditwah, Kandy has emerged as the worst-hit district, with 99 deaths and approx. 150 persons missing. Badulla recorded 71 deaths, Nuwara Eliya reported 68 deaths and 23 people died in Matale with significant causalities. According to the DMC, disaster has affected 11,18,929 people from the families across country.
One of the serious yet gravest natural disasters occurred in the history of Sri Lanka. The river levels are rising to historic heights, which led to submergence of entire towns, most of the bridges swept away and infrastructure is collapsing.
India launches ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’ to aid cyclone-hit Sri Lanka

Operation Sagar Bandhu is launched by India, to aid Sri Lanka from the devastating effects triggered by the cyclone Ditwah. Swinging into swift action, India is putting efforts to help its neighbour with HADR operations to rescue, provide relief and assistance to the country. The Indian air Force has airlifted 21 tonnes of relief material and over 80 national disaster response force to Colombo to support its neighbour during the crises.
Ditwah Cyclone updates: Coastal Situation in Three States
The IMD stated that heavy rainfall is expected in several districts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry due to the impact of the storm. The affected districts includes Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Viluppuram, Chengalpattu, Puducherry-Karaikal, Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, and Theni. the storm is causing strong winds and heavy rainfall in the costal areas of India. whereas, high waves are rising in the sea, urging Heightened vigilance from the sailors and coastal residents.
