Flight NSE 8849 took off from Cucuta at 11:42 AM on Wednesday, but contact was lost 11 minutes before landing. The wreckage of the plane was found in the remote and mountainous Catatumbo region. This area is known for its bad weather and rugged terrain, making search operations difficult.

The Colombian Ministry of Transport said in a statement issued after the incident, “After the aircraft was located at the site, authorities confirmed that there were no survivors on board.” According to the statement, the aircraft, with registration number HK4709, took off from Cucuta airport at 11:42 AM local time for the city of Ocaña, which is surrounded by mountains. The flight typically takes about 40 minutes. According to the statement from ‘Satena’, aircraft lost contact with air traffic control just minutes after takeoff.
