Bangladesh Hindu Murder: It was a planned murder

Chanchal was the sole breadwinner of his family. After his father’s death, he cared for his ailing mother, disabled older brother, and younger brother. He had worked and lived at a garage in Narsingdi for the past six years. Local residents and the garage owner described Chanchal as a simple and honest young man who had no animosity towards anyone. Family and neighbors believe the murder was premeditated and may have been fueled by religious hatred.

Similar attacks have occurred in Bangladesh in the past, including the burning deaths of Dipu Chandra Das and Khokan Chandra Das, fueling fear within the Hindu community. On December 31, Khokan Das, who owned a pharmacy in the Shariatpur district, was allegedly stabbed, beaten, doused with petrol, and set on fire by a mob. Earlier, Dipu Chandra Das was also reportedly beaten to death, and his body was later burned. These incidents triggered political reactions in India, with the BJP describing them as part of a pattern of increasing violence against Bengali Hindus.
