According to a report released by Statista, the highest number of plane crashes between 1945 and 2022 have been recorded in the US. In these 77 years, there have been a total of 864 accidents in the US, which is an average of 11 to 12 accidents every year. In second place is Russia, where 539 aircraft accidents occurred in the same period.
Ahmedabad Plane Crash: A painful plane crash took place in Ahmedabad on Thursday, in which an Air India flight crashed in a residential area. There were 230 passengers, two pilots and 10 cabin crew on board the aircraft. The Air India flight was on its way to London but crashed minutes after takeoff due to a technical glitch.
According to media reports, before this accident, in 2020, a flight returning from Dubai was a victim of an accident in Kozhikode, Kerala. The plane broke into two parts after skidding on the runway due to rain. There were 190 people on board, of which 21 passengers lost their lives. This incident was also very sad and frightening, but the number of riders in the Ahmedabad incident was high, due to which its impact is even deeper.
US leads in plane crashes

India's position and China's position
India is ranked 10th in this list. According to Statista's report, there have been a total of 95 aircraft accidents in India between 1945 and 2022. India is followed by China, where 76 accidents have occurred in this period. In countries such as Italy (68) and Argentina (43), this figure has been even lower.
2020: Fewer flights, more deaths
There was a steep decline in the number of flights in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the report, flights had decreased by about 57%, yet the number of deaths in air accidents this year was the highest. In January 2020, a Ukrainian plane crashed into Iranian airspace, killing 176 people. A few months later, in May, there was a major accident in Pakistan, in which 97 people were killed.
Indonesia most affected in Asia
Talking about Asian countries, Indonesia tops the list of deaths due to plane crashes. According to the Aviation Safety Network, there have been more than 20 major accidents in the last 25 years, in which about 2,000 people have died. Russia, India and Pakistan are also included in this list, where more than 30, 15 and 8 accidents have been recorded respectively.
