Media reports indicate that a Reddit user had arranged a flight and hotel package to Medellín, Colombia via Expedia. However, he was forced to cancel the trip at the last moment due to health issues. Regrettably, he did not have travel insurance, and both the hotels and airlines were not permitting any cancellations.

Feeling troubled by his circumstances at the time, the individual turned to ChatGPT-4o for assistance. He asked the AI to craft a compelling letter that would articulate his mental health issues and encourage the hotel to respond with understanding. ChatGPT produced a thoughtful and persuasive letter. Following the dispatch of this letter, despite Expedia's previously rigid policies, the hotel refunded the full amount due to medical considerations.

Initially, the airline declined to issue refunds, adhering to a policy that permitted refunds solely in cases of death or severe physical illness. Subsequently, the Reddit user drafted a new letter with assistance from ChatGPT, addressing the effects on mental health. Within an hour, the airline granted the refund.
