Bangladesh: Two new cases deepen crisis for Former PM Sheikh Hasina
Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is facing legal scrutiny. Recently, two new cases have been registered against him, one of which is related to last year's student agitation. A young man was killed during the agitation, further complicated Hasina's political situation.
Bangladesh News: The challenges facing former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina show no signs of abating. Despite her ousting from power, she is confronted with numerous legal issues that have compounded her difficulties. Recently, two additional cases have been filed against her, further complicating her political journey.
Media sources indicate that an FIR has been filed against Sheikh Hasina and several high-ranking members of the Awami League in connection with an incident during last year's student protests. On July 20, 2024, Sajal Mian, a young man employed at a shoe factory, was fatally shot during a protest in the Shimril area of Narayanganj.
The victim's mother filed a case.
Runa Begum, the mother of the victim, filed a report at Siddhirganj police station in Narayanganj. She claimed that the shooting was carried out under the direction of Awami League leaders. A legal case has been filed against 61 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina.

The FIR claimed that the firing was planned and at the behest of the top leadership.
How did Sajal die?
The firing took place near the Dutch-Bangla Bank when the students were protesting. It is alleged that an Awami League supporter opened fire on the students. Sajal was shot in the stomach, after which he was taken to the hospital, but died during treatment.
Second case filed against Sheikh Hasina
In the second case filed against Sheikh Hasina, she is accused of conducting 'dummy elections' in 2024 and voter rigging. The case has been filed in a court in Tangail by Bhuyapur resident Kamrul Hasan. As many as 193 people have been named as accused in the case.
