Pakistani forces raid Baloch activist's home, father abducted
Pakistani intelligence agencies and CTD raided the home of Baloch Yaqjehti Committee activist Bibo Baloch, abducting his father, Mama Ghaffar Qambarani. The BYC condemned the raid as a human rights violation, urging international intervention against the state-led repression in Balochistan.
Pakistan's intelligence agencies and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) raided the house of Baloch Yaqzehti Committee (BYC) activist Bibo Baloch in Quetta's Kelly Qambarani area late last night and forcibly abducted his father Mama Ghaffar Qambarani. Bibo Baloch has been in the custody of Pakistani authorities for the past two weeks in Hooda jail along with BYC organiser Mahrang Baloch. Sabiha Baloch's father was also detained this morning, the BYC said.
In a post on X, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) said, "Tonight, Pakistan's intelligence agencies and the so-called Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) raided the house of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) activist Bibo Baloch in Kelly Qambarani, Quetta and forcibly disappeared his father Mama Ghaffar Qambarani." A senior political activist, Mama Ghafar has been a victim of enforced disappearances at the hands of state authorities in the past. "This is not only a violation of basic rights; This is a clear manifestation of the authoritarianism and fascism being imposed on the people of Balochistan. Targeting political activists and their families for peaceful political activism is not only illegal – it is extremely inhumane.
"Our moral, historic, and constitutional responsibility compels us to speak out against these grave injustices and to stand up in resolute resistance against all forms of state-led repression. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee urged the international community and human rights organisations to raise their voice and take action for Mama Ghaffar and all other Baloch persons who have been forcibly disappeared. Under the guise of legal authority, the state continues its systematic violence and repression against the Baloch people. Balochistan has been grappling with state repression, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings of activists, scholars and civilians. The region is facing economic neglect, poor infrastructure, and limited political autonomy. Despite the abundance of natural resources, local communities receive little benefit, while forced disappearances remain a widespread issue.
