IPS Readies Palestinian Prisoner Release in Gaza Truce
The Israel Prison Service (IPS) has declared its readiness to finalize the release of Palestinian prisoners following the agreement concerning the hostage exchange deal under the Gaza ceasefire accord. IPS Chief Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi has conducted yet another assessment with a view toward smooth execution of the operation.
Thus far, ten Israeli hostages have been released since the ceasefire began. Three more are expected to be released on Thursday. In exchange, the IPS has received a list of security prisoners who will be released from various prisons.
Once all the necessary preparations are made, members of the IPS' elite Nachshon unit will escort the prisoners to designated handover points. Upon receiving final approval from political authorities, the prisoners will be transported by the Red Cross to release points in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) and by IPS' Nachshon and Masada special units to the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza.
