West Bank Settlement to Rename Area After Donald Trump
The Mayor of Ma'ale Adumim, Israeli settlement in West Bank, stated that a substantial part of it would be given a new name- "Trump One", abbr., T1 for the former United States President, Donald Trump.
Mayor Guy Yifrach said he was confident that Trump's second term would be a turning point for the strengthening of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, adding, "We trust Trump and believe he will support construction in this region in the coming months." The area in question spans 4,000 acres and was previously known as E1 or Mevaseret Adumim. It is within the municipal confines of Ma'ale Adumim and falls within Area C, which is entirely under Israeli administration and security control.
Plans to construct more than 3,000 houses in this area to alleviate the shortage of houses have been resisted, mainly by international opposition, including from the Biden administration. Mayor Yifrach described the land as a "strategic asset" and called on the Israeli leadership to establish territorial contiguity between Ma'ale Adumim and Jerusalem.
It mirrors an earlier step: the naming of a community after Trump, this time in the Golan Heights, six months after his 2019 declaration of recognition of Israeli sovereignty over that area. Leaders have hailed Trump's measures, which undid some sanctions initiated by President Biden against residents in Judea and Samaria while reinstating restrictions against UNRWA and officials from the International Criminal Court.
