EAM S Jaishankar to Represent India at Trump's Swearing-in Ceremony
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent India at the inauguration ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump on January 20. Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. During his visit to Washington, Jaishankar will also hold meetings with representatives of the incoming Trump administration, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Sunday. Trump defeated incumbent US Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential elections held in November last year. Last month, Jaishankar had said that Trump has a positive political approach to India and India is in a more advantageous position than many other countries to build a "deeper" relationship with his administration and to advance bilateral ties.

During his visit, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will hold meetings with representatives of the incoming US administration as well as with some other dignitaries who are visiting the US to attend the event, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. There are concerns in many countries over the Trump administration's policy on a number of sensitive issues including tariffs, climate change and overall foreign policy priorities against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the situation in the Middle East. Trump will become the President of the United States for the second time. He served as the 45th President of the United States from January 2017 to January 2021.
