Rajnath Singh to Meet Maldivian Defence Minister for Bilateral Talks
Defence Minister of India, Shri Rajnath Singh will hold a bilateral meeting with the Defence Minister of Maldives, Mr. Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon in Delhi on January 08, 2025. During the meeting, the two ministers will review various aspects of bilateral defence cooperation, including training for the supply of defence equipment, regular exercises, defence projects, workshops and seminars, including capacity building of Maldivian National Defence Forces. During his visit, the Defence Minister will also visit Goa and Mumbai. The minister's visit to the island nation comes nearly eight months after India withdrew its military personnel from the Maldives on the demand of President Mohamed Muizzu.
Deep Ties Between Two Countries
India and Maldives share spiritual, historical, linguistic and ethnic ties. Maldives occupies a special place in India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy to bring stability and prosperity to the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). Both countries play a pivotal role in maintaining the safety and security of the IOR, thus contributing to India's vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will hold a bilateral meeting with Defence Minister of Maldives Mr. Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon on January 8 in New Delhi, the defence ministry said. The two ministers will review various aspects of bilateral defence cooperation, including training, exercises and defence projects as well as supply of defence equipment to enhance the Maldives National Defence Force's capability.
