India has dispatched a new shipment to Jamaica, consisting of around 60 tons of emergency medical supplies, generators, and other essential equipment, to support the country's healthcare needs and enhance its disaster preparedness.

Randhir Jaiswal, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, shared details about the humanitarian aid on Saturday.

"India sends Humanitarian Assistance to Jamaica. A consignment of approx 60 tons of emergency medical equipment, Gensets & other utilities has departed for Jamaica. This assistance will support health care needs and rehabilitation of medical infrastructure as well as strengthen the disaster preparedness of against Hurricanes," Jaiswal stated in a post on X.

India and Jamaica share deep historical and cultural connections, rooted in their common colonial past, shared commitment to democracy and freedom, and mutual love for cricket.

At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness made his inaugural visit to India from September 30 to October 3. The two leaders held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi during his stay.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness emphasized his nation's goal to enhance cooperation with India in various fields such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), education, digitalization, security, and energy.

Prime Minister Modi praised the relationship between India and Jamaica, emphasizing that their ties are rooted in a 'shared history.' He also noted that Prime Minister Holness has been a 'long-standing friend of India.'

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in Andrew Holness' visit to India, highlighting that it would invigorate bilateral relations.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness described his official trip to India as highly successful, commending New Delhi for its leadership as a strong advocate for the Global South and for offering a development pathway to nations like Jamaica.

PM Holness also praised India's achievements in cricket and Jamaica's dominance in track and field, emphasizing the significant potential for mutual exchange and collaboration in these areas.
