US Diplomat Donald Lu Begins 7-Day Tour of India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal
US State Department said in an official release on Tuesday, Donald Lu will travel to India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal from December 3 to December 10.
His visit aims to enhance cooperation with crucial partners in South Asia to foster regional prosperity and security. In New Delhi, India, Assistant Secretary Lu will advocate for US-India collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
He will partner with Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink to head US involvement in the US-India East Asia Consultations.
As per the US State Department, these Consultations, along with individual meetings with senior Indian officials, will offer a platform to share views on global and regional matters.
Assistant Secretary Lu is Set to Travel
On December 5, Assistant Secretary Lu will visit Colombo, Sri Lanka, to further US-Sri Lankan collaborative initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth, tackling corruption, and enhancing people-to-people connections.
Accompanying the Assistant Secretary will be USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and Department of the Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary Robert Kaproth. They will engage with senior officials from Sri Lanka's new administration and civil society representatives.
To Deepen Ties with New Government
Discussions will deepen ties with the new government, support its efforts to combat corruption and explore how the United States can support Sri Lanka's governance and economic reform agenda through tailored technical assistance, capacity building, and development programs.
Assistant Secretary Lu will wrap up his visit to Kathmandu, Nepal, with meetings with senior officials to enhance collaboration on environmental protection, women's empowerment, and sustainable development. He will also engage with young leaders to understand their perspectives on the future of US-Nepal relations.
Furthermore, the conversations will highlight the significance of preserving culture, acknowledging Nepal's abundant heritage as a fundamental aspect of its identity and a crucial factor in its tourism and economic sectors.
