Imran Khan currently in custody in New Town PS case
On Monday, Pakistan's Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) placed Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister, on a 14-day judicial remand in connection with the New Town police station case, according to ARY News. ARY News reports that Imran Khan is currently held in Adiala jail following his arrest in the New Town PS case.
Serious concern over Imran Khan's health and safety
According to ARY News, ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah heard the petition and approved his judicial remand at New Town police station and seven other cases. The development came after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder was arrested in seven more cases related to vandalism. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political committee issued a statement after an important meeting on Sunday to fully mingle with party founder Imran Khan due to serious concerns over his health and safety, reports ARY News. The committee said that Imran Khan's health has become a significant concern, people's concern about his condition is increasing.
Appeal to protect Khan's fundamental rights and ensure strong security measures
It called for immediate restoration of access to Khan's family, legal team and party officials to ensure transparency and accountability in his treatment. The statement also urged the prison authorities as well as the federal and Punjab governments to provide clear and frequent updates about Khan's health condition. Further, ARY News reported that the committee appealed to the judiciary to protect Imran Khan's fundamental rights and ensure strong security measures.It issued a stern warning, holding the prime minister, the Punjab chief minister and the state institutions concerned accountable for any lapses in ensuring Khan's safety.
Earlier, Adiala jail authorities assured the public that Imran Khan is in good health. The clarification came following reports that Khan might be shifted to some other location. Khan is currently kept in a cell under the jurisdiction of the New Town police station, ARY News reported, citing sources. He is on remand till December 2 in a case related to the September 28 protests.
