India-EU Energy Panel Discusses Green Hydrogen, Clean Energy Initiatives

Achievements of the Second Phase of India

The achievements of the second phase of the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership 2021-2024 were reviewed. The meeting held on 21st November was co-chaired by Tanmay Lall, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs and Ms.

Ditte Juul Jorgensen, Director General of Energy, European Commission. India was represented by representatives of the new Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Power.

while the European Union was represented by the Directorate General of Energy and the European Commission's Directorate General of Climate Action.

During the meeting, the two sides concluded and concluded joint initiatives involving technical cooperation in 51 activities divided over nine sectors.

Framework for Hydrogen Collaboration has also been Developed

The two sides have also formulated the framework for green hydrogen cooperation, including cooperation on green hydrogen policies between India and the European Union.

The European Union and its Member States participated in the International Conference on Green Hydrogen 2024 in India, while India joined as a Special Country Partner of the European Hydrogen Week 2024.

India and the EU also entered into long-term research commitments to jointly support clean energy projects as part of the India-EU Business and Technology Council Working Group on Clean and Green Technologies, which was established in January 2023.

Action Plan for Phase 3 of India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership

The two sides adopted the Action Plan for the third phase of the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership (2025-2028), which will focus on deeper cooperation in five priority areas.

Green hydrogen, offshore wind, regional connectivity, power market integration and smart grids, energy efficiency and energy and climate diplomacy.

The two sides have set a comprehensive agenda for green hydrogen cooperation that includes assessing the feasibility of infrastructure development, regulatory and technology cooperation, and strengthening supply chains.
