Trudeau upset as Germany-India Partnership Hurts Canadian Economy
Canada's Bet Backfired
There is tension in the relations between India and Canada, Canada had tried to shock India, but now its bet has backfired. Germany has dashed Canada's plans by supporting India. Canada recently abolished the Student Direct Scheme (SDS) visa scheme for Indian students, but Germany has opened its doors for Indian students and workers. This will cause a blow of about Rs 400 crore to Canada. This is the reason why Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has taken his head.
What is SDS Visa Scheme?
The Trudeau government had launched the SDS visa scheme so that Indian students who wanted to study in Canada could get visas quickly. Every year millions of Indian students used to go to study in Canada, which not only led to their full education but also got good paying jobs in companies there, but now Canada has ended this scheme. Indian students will now have to wait longer for visas, which may delay their studies.
Canada May Loose ₹400 crore
Due to the SDS visa scheme, millions of Indian students used to go to Canada every year, this greatly benefited the Canadian economy. According to a report, Canada earns about $ 4.4 billion (about Rs 371 crore more according to the current currency rate) from students alone. However, Canada has now abolished this scheme and has hit its own feet, because after this decision, Indian students have started moving to European countries and Australia instead of Canada.
Germany Supported India
Germany saw a great opportunity in this, supported India and took advantage of the opportunity to open its doors to Indian students and skilled workers. Germany has now increased the visa limit for Indian skilled workers to 90 thousand every year. This move of Germany will strengthen its relationship with India in a way. At the same time, its economy will be strengthened, because there is a great need for young workers there.
