Claims of Chinese activity

Since September 2020, China has escalated its military operations around Taiwan by sending aircraft and naval vessels. This is part of a grey zone strategy aimed at achieving its security goals. Previously, Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te convened a high-level national security meeting, where he reassured the public that the government is dedicated to countering any threats to Taiwan's democracy and security following China's extensive military drills around the island.

Described as a "stern warning"

As reported by the Taipei Times, he commented following the Chinese People's Liberation Army's (PLA) announcement of military drills named 'Joint Sword-2024B' in the Taiwan Strait and nearby regions, which were characterized as a 'stern warning' to advocates of Taiwan's independence. In a bid to modernize Taiwan, on November 4, Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te participated in the keel-laying ceremony for the Taiwanese Navy's new light frigate prototype, also referred to as the Republic of China Navy (ROCN), at Kaohsiung Shipyard.
