He stressed that “nothing changes” for the India trade deal and called Prime Minister Narendra Modi “a great gentleman, a truly great man.”

When asked about the “framework we’re going to sign with India soon” at a news conference on Friday afternoon, Trump replied: “Nothing changes, nothing changes. They’ll pay tariffs, and we won’t pay tariffs.” He added, “We’ve made a deal with India, and now it’s a fair deal, and we’re not paying them tariffs, and they’re paying tariffs.”

Trump was also asked whether he plans to visit India for the upcoming Quad Summit and how he views the relationship between India and the US. He said, “I think my relationship with India is excellent, and we’re doing business with India.” He also clarified that there is no link between the India-Pakistan war and his tariffs.

US President’s press conference focused largely on the Supreme Court’s decision on tariffs, but Trump repeatedly emphasised that trade tools give him leverage abroad. The Supreme Court is the highest court in the US, and its decisions determine binding interpretations of federal law and presidential authority. The Court can also determine how far the president can go without new action from Congress.
