Johannesburg Mass Shooting: What’s the whole matter?
Armed attackers opened fire in the Bekkersdal area near Johannesburg on sunday. According to police, the attack took place in a township on the outskirts of Johannesburg, where the gunmen targeted people walking in the street. This is the second major mass shooting incident in South Africa within a month. Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili confirmed that 10 people have been killed, although their identities have not yet been released. Police said some of the victims were shot in the back while walking. The motive for the attack is currently unclear.
South Africa Mass Shooting: Shooting in the Bekkersdal area
The shooting took place near a bar in the Bekkersdal area, a poor region located near some of the country’s major gold mines. Police also reported that there were indications of illegal alcohol sales at the scene. The injured were immediately taken to the hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
The area has been sealed off and a search operation is being conducted to find the perpetrators. It is worth noting that on December 6, twelve people, including a three-year-old child, were killed in a shooting at a hostel near Pretoria.
