Donald Trump Warning to Canada: Tensions are high between the US and Canada over Greenland. Amidst this, Canada has rejected Trump’s dream project and most important initiative, the Golden Dome missile defence project. In response, Trump warned Canada, citing the threat of China, saying that Beijing could swallow up Canada within a year because its northern neighbour is choosing closer ties with China instead of US-backed security.
Trump said that Canada is against the construction of the Golden Dome in Greenland, even though the Golden Dome would protect Canada. Instead, he said, they have chosen to do business with China, which will devour them within a year.
Donald Trump Warning to Canada

Trump’s outburst comes amid rising tensions between the US and its northern neighbour, fuelled by recent comments made by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. During his address at the 56th annual WEF summit, Trump criticised Carney, saying that Canada should be more grateful to the US for the free benefits it receives, including security. Canada receives many free benefits from the US. Furthermore, his plan to build the Golden Dome missile defence system will also provide security to Canada.
Trump Canada Dispute

In a sharp attack on Canada, Trump stated that Canada’s existence is due to the United States. He also emphasised America’s strategic and security role in defending its northern neighbour. Meanwhile, on January 17, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a new trade agreement with China. During the announcement, PM Carney said that the agreement would open up markets for Canadian businesses and workers and create opportunities in export markets worth more than $7 billion.
China-Canada Trade Deal

A statement released by the Canadian Prime Minister’s office said that in an increasingly divided and uncertain world, Canada is building a stronger, more independent, and more resilient economy. To this end, Canada’s new government is working with urgency and determination to diversify trade partnerships and accelerate new levels of investment. As the world’s second-largest economy, China presents immense opportunities for Canada in this endeavour.
