Donald Trump as Acting President of Venezuela: ‘50 million barrel oil deal finalised with Venezuela’

When reporters on Air Force One asked Trump about relations with the new leadership in Caracas, he said, “Everything is going very well in Venezuela. We are working very well with the leadership, and we’ll see how things go from here.” This question was asked after the US-backed operation that had removed Nicolás Maduro from power in Venezuela.
Trump said that Venezuela had asked the United States to take a large shipment of oil. He said, “They asked us, ‘Could we take 50 million barrels of oil?’ And I said, ‘Yes, we can.’” Trump added that oil companies have shown considerable interest in Venezuela. Regarding the assurances given to energy companies, Trump said that they are guaranteed to be safe and that there will be no problems.

He blamed the previous difficulties on the former US administration. He said they had problems before because they didn’t have Trump as president. He wrote, “Venezuela no longer needs protection from the thugs and extortionists who have held them hostage for so many years.” Trump added, “Venezuela now has the United States of America, the most powerful military in the world, and we will protect them.”
