British & French strikes Syria: While global attention remains fixed on the U.S.–Venezuela dispute, developments in the Middle East are unfolding rapidly. Against this backdrop, two key NATO members, Britain and France, have carried out a joint airstrike against the terrorist group ISIS in Syria. The operation, conducted on Saturday evening, targeted and destroyed ISIS hideouts.
According to the UK Ministry of Defence, British and French air forces jointly targeted a suspected underground hideout in Syria believed to be a storage facility for weapons and explosives belonging to ISIS, which had previously been used by the terrorist organization.

Britain & France Joint Airstrike: Typhoon aircraft and guided bombs used
Britain deployed its Typhoon FGR4 fighter jets in this joint military operation, while French fighter jets were also involved. The attack used precision-guided Paveway IV bombs. These bombs targeted several tunnels leading to the underground facility.
Early indications indicate mission successful
The British Ministry of Defence said a detailed damage assessment was still underway, but initial information suggested the target had been successfully destroyed. The attack is expected to deal a significant blow to ISIS’s military capabilities.
Solidarity against terrorism: Britain
British Defense Secretary John Healey said the operation demonstrates Britain’s commitment to working with its allies to prevent the resurgence of ISIS and its violent ideology in the Middle East. He emphasized the importance of standing shoulder to shoulder with allies in the fight against terrorism.
ISIS remains a threat
Despite suffering a major defeat in Syria in 2019, ISIS has not been fully eradicated. The group’s sleeper cells continue to operate in Syria and Iraq, carrying out sporadic attacks. According to United Nations experts, an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 ISIS fighters may still be active across the two countries.
It is also notable that the United States conducted airstrikes on ISIS targets in Syria last month. Those attacks were launched in response to a deadly incident near Palmyra that claimed the lives of two U.S. soldiers and an American civilian interpreter. Together, these developments underscore that military operations against ISIS in Syria are still ongoing.
