America-Taiwan Trade Deal: A significant trade agreement was finalised between the United States and Taiwan on Thursday. The agreement aims to strengthen economic ties between two countries. Under this agreement, US will reduce tariffs on several products imported from Taiwan. In return, Taiwan will make a substantial investment of $250 billion in the US technology industry. The US has previously entered into similar agreements with the European Union and Japan. This deal between the two countries has angered China.
US Tariff Cut: Significant Tariff Relief

Last April, then-US administration imposed a 32 percent tariff on goods from Taiwan, citing an imbalance in US-Taiwan trade. This was later reduced to 20 percent. Now, under the new agreement, this tariff will be further reduced to 15 percent. This is the same rate that the US applies to countries like Japan and South Korea. This tariff reduction will provide significant relief to Taiwanese exporters.
US-Taiwan Trade Agreement: Domestic Production to Increase in the US
The US Department of Commerce has called this agreement a major step towards economic partnership. According to the department, new industrial parks will be built in the US under this deal. This will boost domestic production and create new job opportunities. The US also stated that this agreement is historic and will particularly benefit the country’s semiconductor sector.
World News Today: Focus on Semiconductors and Technology

This trade agreement focuses specifically on sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and energy. The US hopes that Taiwanese investment will strengthen its technology supply chain and increase self-reliance in the strategically important semiconductor industry.
Taiwan Investment: Taiwan’s Statement and Investment Plan
The Taiwanese government has also welcomed the agreement. According to Taiwan, this deal will expand its technological model in the US, further strengthening the global competitiveness of Taiwan’s tech industry. It will also elevate strategic relations and cooperation between the two countries to a new level.
Under the agreement, Taiwan will invest approximately $250 billion in US semiconductor, AI, and energy companies. In addition, certain products from Taiwan, such as generic medicines and aircraft components, will receive special tariff exemptions. Taiwanese semiconductor companies that invest in the US will also receive additional relief and incentives.
America-Taiwan Trade Deal: China’s Strong Reaction

China has strongly objected to this trade agreement. The Chinese government criticised the agreement between the US and Taiwan, calling it detrimental to regional stability. However, the US and Taiwan have clarified that the agreement is based entirely on economic cooperation. Overall, this deal will strengthen trade relations between the US and Taiwan and is likely to have an impact on the global technology market.
