Doctor Ganesh Baraiya Success Story: If one’s determination is strong, then physical stature or any other obstacle cannot stop a person from moving forward. Ganesh Baraiya from Gujarat is a living example of this. He is three feet tall and weighs around 20 kg. Ganesh has a 72 percent handicap due to dwarfism, but this challenge did not stop him from becoming a doctor.
Many times, laws, rules, and people stood in his way, but nothing could stop Ganesh’s spirit. He convinced people that the height of dreams is much greater than height of a person. Today, Ganesh has become an inspiration for all those who give up and retreat in face of difficult circumstances. He started his first job as a medical officer in Bhavnagar on November 27th.

Born to a farmer in Gorakhi village, Ganesh is the eighth of nine siblings. He is the only child in family and suffers from dwarfism. He faced many difficulties since childhood, and children teased him for his height. According to an Indian Express report, when Ganesh was 10 years old, a circus troupe offered to ‘buy’ him for 5 lakh rupees. They said he could only work in circuses, but Ganesh’s father turned them away.
From Dreaming to build a permanent home
Ganesh’s parents are farmers, and he is one of nine siblings. His family lives in a mud house. Ganesh says, “My biggest dream is to build a permanent home for my family. Construction has been stalled several times due to lack of funds, but now that I get my salary, I will complete it.”
Gujarati Dr. Ganesh Baraiya: Fought a legal battle for MBBS

Ganesh’s journey of becoming a doctor wasn’t easy. In 2018, Medical Council of India (MCI) denied him admission to the MBBS course, citing that his physical condition would prevent him from practicing as a doctor. The Gujarat High Court upheld MCI’s decision, but Ganesh remained resolute. His school principal, Dr. Dalpatbhai Kataria, approached the Supreme Court on his behalf. Due to financial constraints, Principal Kataria also bore the expenses of his family’s legal battle.
Ganesh then took admission in a B.Sc. and approached the Supreme Court. Four months after filing the case, the Supreme Court delivered a historic verdict, stating that his height could not prevent his admission. This cleared Ganesh’s path to medical education.

Ganesh was admitted to Bhavnagar Medical College in 2019. But his classmates and professors supported him every step of the way. His short stature made it difficult for him in the medical lab. They reserved a front seat for him in anatomy class and helped him navigate the operating table during surgery training. Ganesh says, “My friends and teachers made sure that my height didn’t hinder my learning.”

Ganesh explains that when he started working, his patient’s initial reaction is surprising. People were often startled by his height, but when they heard his story of struggle, they began to trust him. Patients also treated him positively and cordially.
Dr. Ganesh’s Dreams
Ganesh’s dream now is to become an expert in paediatrics, dermatology, or radiology. He will treat poor villagers, where the need is greatest. He is also being considered for title of world’s youngest doctor. This victory of Ganesh is not only his own, but also of every person who dreams big despite physical challenges. His video is also going viral on social media, and people are encouraging him. Dr. Ganesh set an example for society and disabled by starting his first job as a medical officer on Thursday.
